Amarok is Better than iTunes

01.15.07 | 3 Comments

I have used something that might be better than iTunes and it is called Amarok.

  1. It’s UI is fast and friendly and lets you “spin-up” playlists quickly.
  2. It can look and feel like iTunes AND WinAmp, and even at the same time, if you like.
  3. It’s themable, skinnable, and all that jazz.
  4. You can trip out to multiple visualizers at the same time.
  5. It’s plugged-in to the open-source MusicBrainz music metadatabase.
  6. It uses Amazon.com’s web services to download track information, artwork, etc. without giving you guff
  7. It’s plugged-in to last.fm as well.
  8. It works with multiple music devices.
  9. It’s plugged-in to Wikipedia.
  10. It has a scripting system that’s 100% better than AppleScript.
  11. You can set it to use an external MySQL database for your own hacking purposes.
  12. Podcast support works flawlessly.

And so on. If you can get your hands on a Linux distro, give it a try. Highly recommended.

haha. I was wondering how long your LJ stint was going to last. ;-)

I’m not to surprised the scripting support is better. Not too hard to beat applescript IMO.

Hey Brett this is Greg from Tx, you might remember me. :-)

Amarok rocks, eh? Another cool thing about it is even tho its a kde app it works flawlessly in gnome as far as I can tell. I didnt even think to try it since I prefer gnome until I saw someone point that out on a forum.
